Facets 2016 Chairman’s Message
Ayubowan, Greetings From Sri Lanka ! "Come September, Come FACETS" Twenty Five years of showcasing Sri Lanka's unique Gem and Jewellery product to the world, by paving a way to exports for local entrepreneurs, by building strong local and international trade linkages at every level of the industry, by building an international image for our industry and our nation and by bringing the global Gem and Jewellery stage to our doorstep, the achievements and contribution of FACETS SRI LANKA INTERNATIONAL GEM AND JEWELLERY SHOW have been remarkable. Held in September each year, this is the pinnacle event in our industry calendar. This event is the flagship activity of the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association and has been held annually in Colombo since 1991. FACETS Sri Lanka plays a pivotal role in making Colombo a regional Gem & Jewellery hub and Sri Lanka the "Sapphire Capital of the World". The Sri Lanka Gem & Jewellery Association (SLGJA), the apex private sector organization representing the interests of all industry sub-sectors from mining to manufacturing, wholesale and retail, organizes the show in partnership with the government's National Gem and Jewellery Authority and the Sri Lanka Export Development Board. The Sri Lankan Gem and Jewellery industry, is one of the most important foreign exchange earners to the local economy and the contribution by FACETS has been immense. This year the 26th edition of the show will take place from the 01st to the 04th of September at the country's premier exhibition and convention Centre , the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre in Colombo. On display will be Sri Lanka's finest Gems & Jewellery. The FACETS 26th show will accommodate over 200 local and foreign exhibitors showcasing their Gem and Jewellery products. Furthermore, Over 10,000 visitors are expected to visit the show including a large number of high-profile and influential buyers from around the world, making it the biggest event in its 25 year history. Therefore I would like to invite you all and welcome you to be a part of this internationally acclaimed exposition by way of an exhibitor, visitor or buyer. SLGJA Chairman's Message
Facets Sri Lanka in the largest gem and jewellery exhibition organized in our country and is known for attracting a large number of local and foreign buyers from all around the world. The exhibition has an excellent participation from both Sri Lanka and international companies showcasing the best gemstones produced. The organizing committee in the past have put in a tremendous effort to bring the exhibition to the successful standard it has achieved today and to make it an internationally recognized event. It is very pleasing to see that the present committee headed by Mr. Mushtaq Jabir is working with great enthusiasm and are putting their heart and soul in to take this exhibition to greater heights. The year 2015 was a milestone year for our association, having hosted the 16th International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA) Congress in Colombo, which has been hailed as the best congress ever, and having organized the 25th anniversary show of Facets Sri Lanka, which was a resounding success. As the Chairman of the ICA Congress committee Sri Lanka 2015, I take this opportunity to thank everyone for their tremendous efforts and hard work put in to achieve our goal to host the best Congress of the ICA and host the Facets ICA edition. It is truly an honour and privilege for me to serve as the newly elected Chairman of the Sri Lanka Gem & Jewellery Association (SLGJA). I would like to thank the members of the SLGJA for having elected me as Chairman, and for their trust in the newly elected executive committee. Apart from continuing the amazing work done by the previous chairman Mr. A.P.Jayarajah and his committee, we as the newly elected executive committee for the year 2015/2016 are determined to take our association to greater heights and add value to our industry and Sri Lanka. My committee and I welcome all our members who have been the pillars of SLGJA’s success to have an active involvement with the association and join hands with us to initiate new strategies to achieve the goals of the SLGJA. We also look forward to having a close rapport with all our stakeholders and welcome the continued support of our past Chairmen to enable us to work together to further strengthen the ties between our association and the gem & jewellery industry.
